Meals and Nutrition
Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in the health and development of children.
Children older than 15 months
All snack and meals are included in tuition. At Spanish for fun! We offer our children nutritious foods throughout the day to ensure children are getting the nourishment and energy they need to learn grow and be healthy. Research shows that there are crucial relationships between nutrition and health, and health and learning.
In addition to eating nutritious foods, meal times are an opportunity for learning and developing social and self help skills.
For this reason the center serves a freshly made lunch and two snacks daily. Our snacks and lunch consist of the following: milk, meat or meat alternative, bread or bread alternative, fruit, and vegetable.
A monthly menu is posted on the centers information board. Lunches and snacks are prepared on site daily by our cook.
Please inform us of any special diet needs your child has. We will try our best to accommodate every child’s dietary needs. If in the event that we cannot provide the right dietary substance then we ask that you provide it for your child.
Children 15 months and younger
For children 15 months and under we will follow your directions on feeding your child, based on the Feeding Schedule form you complete during enrollment. This form will be posted in your child’s room so that you can document any changes to the schedule.
Bottle Feeding- State regulations require the parent / guardian to provide all bottle containing either formula or breast milk for infants, according to the following guidelines:
- Bottles must be ready to eat, labeled with the child’s name and the date to be used, and must be taken home each day.
- No bottles can remain in the Center overnight.
- Once warmed, bottle of formula must be utilized within one hour. Bottles of breast milk must be used within two hours. At the end of those time frames, any remaining contents must be discarded.
- Packaged Foods, including cereal, jars of baby food, or crackers- These items must also be brought in their original container and labeled with the child’s name and date to be used.
- Please specify the serving size to be given to your child.
- For sanitation reasons, all foods will be transferred to a plate or bowl before feeding the child.
- Once opened, packaged food can be utilized for up to two days with proper refrigeration/storage.
- The Center will provide all bowls, plates and spoons for feeding.
Guidelines when bringing food from home
- Supplied meals from home are required to follow the center’s menu. Meal Patterns for Children in Child Care, is provided to guide parents with the amount of servings they need to supply.
- Lunches and meals brought from home must be dated and labeled with child’s name and must return home or be discarded at the end of the day.
- Parents will place food in the refrigerator to maintain appropriate temperature until eaten.
- The center will supplement the meals and snacks brought from home that do not meet the nutritional requirements.
- Foods and beverages with little or no nutritional value served as a snack such us fruit drinks, soft drinks, etc., can only be available for special occasions.
